Art: Helman Heilahdus

📍 Nearby airport - Helsinki Airport railway station

Helman Heilahdus ("A Sway of the Hem") delights passengers and commuters at Helsinki Airport railway station. The panoramic two-part work by artist Aarne Jämsä is located in the platform area of the railway station, 45 metres below ground. The work depicts pleated fabric, lace and sequins. The sheets have been mounted on rock on both sides of the platform. Jämsä's original drawing was done in coloured pencil, and the forms have been modified by computer to the new measurements and printed on aluminium sheets. The end result is about 690 square metres of meticulous drawing. The work is over seven metres high and it is one of the largest works of art in Finland.

Art: Skydreamer

📍 Nearby airport - Lentoasemantie

Lindfors’s 16-metre-tall sculpture moves in the wind like a giant weather vane. The sculpture is made of stainless steel, and its massive sail not only works as its source of energy but also as a big screen. The projectors attached to the creature’s wings reflect messages for guests arriving at the airport. According to Lindfors, the work of art is a flying fantasy that will eternally and unpredictably keep on moving above us, fuelled by the wind. The winged sculpture resembles a bird, which is a symbol of aviation and communication bringing together different nations. It is especially well suited for the airport, especially now that Helsinki Airport is renewing and expanding through Finavia’s significant development programme. The Skydreamer sculpture as the symbol of the airport is a continuum for Finavia’s Art Port concept that aims at offering passengers new and surprising services. Airport experiences are a great way of standing out among other possible international transfer airports. Art also has a positive effect on passengers’ satisfaction, which is why it also forms a part of developing Finavia’s customer experience. The name of the artwork, Skydreamer, was found through an open competition. The winning suggestion was made by Ulla Madetoja from Vantaa. The airport also has another work of art by Stefan Lindfors, Concorde . In addition, he has also designed the Aviator Solaris sculpture at Vaasa Airport.

Passenger Amenities at HEL: common questions

How many passenger amenities options are there at Helsinki Airport?

We currently list 50 at Helsinki Airport (HEL). The list on this page shows each one with its terminal or level where we hold it.

Which terminals at HEL have passenger amenities?

Our listings cover Terminal 2. Each entry on this page shows the terminal it sits in.

Are there passenger amenities after security at HEL?

Yes. 15 of the 50 we list are recorded as being past the security checkpoint, which matters if you have already cleared it and cannot go back.

Counts describe what Tripmojo currently lists for this airport, not everything that exists in the terminals. Airport tenants change often, so check with the operator before relying on any single entry.

Where this information comes from

  • The listings. Helsinki Airport's shops, dining, lounges and amenities are gathered per airport from the operator's own terminal directory and comparable published sources, then curated into a single list. Terminal and level labels come from those sources rather than being inferred.
  • Before or after security. Recorded where the source states it and left blank where it does not. A missing value means we do not know, not that a place sits landside, which is a distinction worth caring about if you have already cleared the checkpoint.
  • What we cannot see. Whether a unit opened this morning, closed last month, or moved concourse. Airport tenants turn over constantly and refurbishments move whole piers, so treat any single entry as a strong lead rather than a guarantee.
  • Counts on this page describe what we currently list, not everything present in the terminals. A short list means thin coverage from us as often as it means a quiet airport.
