Under Resolution No. 389/NQ-CP, passed on 2 December 2025, the Vietnamese government expanded e-visa border checkpoints to 83 international ports, including 17 international airports, 27 land crossings, and 39 seaports. Crucially, Vietnam Immigration updated the document template: issued e-visa PDFs no longer print a designated port of entry on the document.

Because your entry gate is not printed on your physical e-visa, you can enter Vietnam through any of the 83 authorized ports, regardless of what you selected on your initial application form. • Validity and Duration: Up to 90 days from your requested entry date. E-visas cannot be extended or renewed from inside Vietnam. To stay longer, you must exit the country and reapply.

• Passport Criteria: Must have at least 6 months validity beyond your arrival date, 2 blank pages, and 30+ days validity past visa expiration.

• Processing Time: Official processing is 3 working days (excluding weekends and Vietnamese public holidays). Real-world processing takes 3 to 7 working days.

• Holiday Delays: Immigration offices close completely during Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year, such as February 14 - 22, 2026). Immigration Department rules require entering your name in UPPERCASE exactly as rendered in the ICAO machine-readable zone - the two character rows at the bottom of your passport bio page. Do not rely on the formatted text printed above it.

A rejection means your application file is closed permanently.

The Approved Visa Warning

Once an e-visa is marked "Approved" and generated, it cannot be edited. If you discover a typo in your passport number or birth date on an approved visa, you cannot fix it at border control. You must submit a new application online and pay another US$25 fee before flying.

The Entry Date Clock: Don't Lose Validity Days

An e-visa's validity period begins on the "Intended date of entry" listed on your application, NOT the day you land in Vietnam.

If you request an e-visa valid from September 1 to November 29 (90 days), but land on September 15, your visa still expires on November 29. You lose those 14 days of stay duration.

Equally important: You cannot enter Vietnam prior to your approved entry date. Attempting to check in for a flight arriving on August 31 with a visa starting September 1 will result in denied boarding at check-in.

The Phu Quoc Visa-Free Trap and Indian Embassy Advisory

Phu Quoc offers a 30-day visa-free exemption, but four strict criteria apply, all of which must be true:
