Do Colombian passport holders need a visa for Ecuador?

• A valid Colombian national identity document accepted by the Andean Community, such as a cédula de ciudadanía for an adult, or a valid passport.
• Registration at an official Ecuadorian migration checkpoint. The Andean Migration Card is the regional record of the movement and may be handled electronically by the authorities.
• Evidence of the tourist purpose, where you will stay and how you will leave or support yourself, if the immigration officer asks.
• For a minor travelling without both parents, the departure authorization required by the authority in the country of departure.

What happens on arrival

Present the valid Colombian identity document or passport at the official checkpoint. Under the Andean Migration Statute, citizens of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia are admitted to another member country as tourists without a visa.

The initial tourist period is 90 days. It may be extended by another 90 days, but total tourist presence cannot exceed 180 continuous or non-continuous days in the same year.

If crossing at Rumichaca or another land border, complete immigration before continuing. Customs formalities for a private or rented vehicle are separate from personal admission and require the vehicle documents, driving licence and, for a rental, the contract.

Good to know

• The cédula route is a legal Andean Community entitlement, not an informal border concession. The current Andean Migration Statute says an Andean citizen may enter another member country as a tourist by presenting a valid national identity document, without a visa. Carrying a passport can still be useful if the itinerary later leaves the four-country bloc.
• Tourism and residence are different lanes under the same regional framework. If the plan is to move, work or remain beyond the tourist allowance, the Andean Temporary Residence route can authorize up to two years and may be requested through the destination country’s consular or immigration authority. Repeated tourist extensions are not a substitute for it.
• Ecuador briefly required a yellow-fever vaccination certificate from travellers arriving from Colombia in 2025, then removed that requirement on 27 August 2025. The certificate is not currently mandatory for this route, but Ecuador still recommends vaccination for travellers whose itinerary includes its Amazon provinces, including Sucumbíos, Napo, Orellana, Pastaza, Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe.
• Driving across adds a temporary vehicle admission process. Ecuadorian customs says the driver should have identity and migration documents, a valid licence and vehicle registration, plus the rental contract when applicable. The vehicle’s permitted stay follows the tourist’s migration record, so do not treat the personal entry stamp as the only border formality.
