Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Mauritius?

By Aditya Rawat · Destinations Writer, Tripmojo · Updated · Reviewed by Simran Raheja

No. Indian citizens do not need a visa to visit Mauritius. India is listed as "No visa required" on the Passport and Immigration Office’s country-wise list, so you are admitted at the airport on your passport. The length of stay is decided by the immigration officer rather than fixed in advance, and the free Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form must be completed before you fly.

Entry requirements

  • An Indian passport valid beyond the period you intend to stay.
  • The Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form completed online before travel. Proof of completion is checked at boarding.
  • A confirmed return ticket to India, or to your country of residence.
  • A confirmed hotel booking, or a sponsor providing accommodation.
  • Adequate funds to cover the cost of your stay, and no intention to take up paid work.

What happens on arrival

Fill in the All-in-One Travel Digital Form on the Government of Mauritius site before you leave. It is free, asks for your flight, passport, accommodation and emergency-contact details, and the airline can ask to see it at check-in. It can only be submitted once your arrival date is within the next 15 days.

At the airport, present your passport, return ticket and accommodation details. The immigration officer decides how long you may stay and stamps that period in, so read the stamp rather than assuming a figure.

If you need longer, apply to the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis before the stamped period ends. Extensions are free, require an in-person visit, and need your arrival-stamp page, onward ticket, three months of bank statements and a confirmed accommodation booking.

Good to know

  • Do not plan around "60 days" or "90 days". Those figures come from travel sites, not from Mauritius. The official position is that the officer sets the period for each visit, with tourist stays limited to six months in a calendar year on a case by case basis. Overstaying the stamped period is a prosecutable offence, so the number that matters is the one written in your passport on arrival.
  • Visa-free covers tourism, not everything. Business visitors are limited to 90 days per trip and 120 days a calendar year without being paid in Mauritius. Anyone travelling for religious or social activities with a Mauritian organisation must obtain a social visa before departure, and anyone coming to work or live needs a residence or occupation permit arranged in advance. Many Indian travellers fall into these groups and assume the tourist rule covers them.
  • The All-in-One form replaced the old paper arrival and health cards and is a legal requirement, not a courtesy. The government site states that refusing to complete it, or giving false information, can carry a fine of up to MUR 500,000 and imprisonment. It is entirely free, so any site charging for it is an intermediary.
  • If you are thinking of a long stay, Mauritius has a free Premium Visa for remote workers, retirees and long-stay tourists that allows a year, renewable. It is a separate application through the Economic Development Board and should be arranged before you travel, not requested at the airport.
