How to apply
Check the exemption first, because it decides whether you need to apply at all. A valid US, UK, Canadian or Schengen visa, or permanent residence in any of them, removes the requirement.
If you do need one, apply through the Bahamas eVisa service online. Allow 7 to 10 business days from submission, not counting the day you submit, and only if the supporting documents are complete and no interview is called for.
Apply early. That processing window assumes a clean application, and a request for more documents restarts the clock rather than pausing it.

- The exemption turns on the visa being VALID at the time you travel, not on having held one. An expired US B1/B2 does not qualify, and this is the single most common way Indian travellers get this wrong.
- Many Bahamas trips are booked as a side trip from Florida, which means the US visa doing the exempting is the same one getting you to Miami. Worth checking its expiry against the return leg, not just the outbound.
- Holders of Indian diplomatic and official passports are covered by a separate bilateral waiver with The Bahamas and do not need a visa regardless of the above.
