Do Trinidadian passport holders need a visa for the Bahamas?

No. Trinidad and Tobago citizens do not need a visa to visit The Bahamas. Trinidad and Tobago is on the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of countries whose nationals do not need a visa, so you are admitted as a visitor at the port of entry. The length of stay is written in your passport by the immigration officer and is at their discretion, and you cannot work.

Entry requirements

  • A Trinidad and Tobago passport valid for at least six months. The Department of Immigration says passport cards are not accepted.
  • A return ticket or other proof of how you will leave The Bahamas.
  • Financial means to support yourself for the stay, or the details of a local sponsor who is receiving you.
  • A completed Bahamas Immigration Disembarkation/Embarkation Card.
  • No intention to take up any gainful employment while in The Bahamas.

What happens on arrival

There is nothing to apply for before you fly. Fill in the Bahamas Immigration card, then present your passport, return ticket and evidence of funds or your sponsor’s details at the port of entry.

The officer stamps the period you may stay into your passport. The Department of Immigration says this period may vary because it depends on the officer’s discretion, with eight months the most a visitor can be given. Read the stamp rather than assuming the maximum.

Admittance is not automatic. The official wording is that a traveller who meets every requirement can still be refused leave to land if other factors apply, so carry the documents rather than relying on the CARICOM connection.

Good to know

  • Both countries are CARICOM members, but The Bahamas is not part of the CSME free-movement arrangements, so the free-movement treatment Trinidad and Tobago nationals are used to elsewhere in the region does not apply here. You enter The Bahamas as an ordinary visitor, on the ordinary visitor rules.
  • The Bahamas exempts different nationalities for either three or eight months depending on the individual agreement, and the Trinidad and Tobago entry carries no figure. The stay you actually have is the one in the stamp. Anyone planning more than ninety days is told by the Department of Immigration to review the requirements before travelling.
  • Most Port of Spain to Nassau routings connect through Miami or another US airport, and a US transit is a separate question with its own rules, which The Bahamas has no say over. Check the transit requirement for your routing before assuming the visa-free answer covers the whole trip.
  • Passport cards are not accepted at the Bahamian border, and the six-month validity rule is stricter than the validity-for-the-trip rule that applies to most of the Caribbean. Check the expiry date before booking.
