Do Jordanian passport holders need a visa for Mexico?
By Saurabh Pathare · Travel Writer, Tripmojo · Updated · Reviewed by Simran Raheja
Yes by nationality, but a document you may already hold can remove the requirement. Jordan appears on Mexico’s published list of countries whose nationals need a visa. The same authority exempts anyone holding a valid United States visa, and anyone with permanent legal residence in the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom or the Schengen area.

Entry requirements
- A valid Jordanian passport.
- Either a Mexican visa from a consulate, or one of the documents Mexico accepts in its place: a valid and current United States visa, or proof of permanent legal residence in the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom or a Schengen state.
- Evidence of the trip in the ordinary way any visitor may be asked for it: accommodation, funds and onward travel.
- A consular appointment, if the exemption does not apply to you, booked far enough ahead to fit the trip.
Check the exemption before booking an appointment
Read Mexico’s own document rather than a summary of it. Jordan appears on the list of nationalities that require a visa, as "Jordania" under J. Set against that is an exemption that does not depend on nationality at all: holders of a valid and current United States visa, and people who can prove permanent legal residence in the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom or the Schengen area, may travel without a Mexican visa.
For many Jordanian travellers that exemption is the whole answer, because a US visa is a document people already hold for reasons that have nothing to do with Mexico. Where it applies, the Mexican visa step disappears rather than becoming easier.
Where it does not apply, the visa is a consular matter, applied for in advance. Mexico’s guidance is that the visa may be obtained at any of its more than 130 consulates worldwide, so confirm which post has jurisdiction over you before planning around an appointment date.
Good to know
- The document that solves this route is usually not Mexican. The exemption attaches to a United States visa or to permanent residence in one of five places, so two Jordanian travellers on the same flight can face completely different processes, and the one with a US visa in their passport may need to do nothing at all.
- The exemption is about what you hold, not where you are flying from. Travelling to Mexico directly from Amman with a valid US visa still engages it, because the condition is the document rather than the routing.
- Confirm the exemption with the consulate that serves you before relying on it, particularly on the detail of which US visa categories and which residence documents count. Airlines apply these rules at check-in, and a boarding refusal is a practical problem long before it is an immigration one.
- Mexico’s two published documents are not equally current. The list of nationalities that require a visa is the one to work from; the older companion document that also carries a no-visa list is visibly out of date, and reading the second where you should have read the first is how people arrive at a confident wrong answer.
