Welcome to Kodagu, coffee country in the Western Ghats! Its main hill town, Madikeri, was named after Haleri king Mudduraja and dubbed Mercara by the British. You are here for misty plantations, fiery Kodava food, and total relaxation. Try to block out three days - two is doable, but you will spend half of it behind the wheel.
Getting there
The speedy route! Zip along the expressway to Mysuru, then take a smooth, steady climb through Kushalnagar straight into the mist.
A scenic detour through the Sakleshpur ghats that takes a bit longer. It works far better as a return journey than your initial approach.
