Where to eat

Lodge full board

Feast on local Kodava and Kannada spreads - spicy pandi curry, fresh akki roti, and heaps of rice. It is pretty much your only dining gig out here!

Mysuru dosa on the way back

The ultimate lunch pitstop. These crisp, golden beauties easily beat any quick bite on the main highway.

Mandya sugarcane juice

Freshly pressed, icy sugarcane juice sold at roadside stalls all along the NH275 sugar belt in both directions.

When to go

Dry season (Mar-May)

Prime time for wildlife! Shrinking water sources force animals to the banks, and sparse foliage makes spotting easy.

Winter (Nov-Feb)

Crisp weather, lush green scenery, and fabulous birdwatching, though thick greenery makes big game harder to spot.

Monsoon (Jun-Sep)

Lush and cinematic, but tricky. Flooded jungle trails often close down zones and cancel safaris.

Good to know

  • Some lodges book rooms and safaris separately - make sure BOTH are confirmed before you drive four and a half hours!
  • Kabini's famous black panther is super elusive. Consider a sighting pure lucky bonus rather than a given!
  • Dress in muted earth tones for safaris and leave your drone behind - they are strictly banned inside the park.
  • Cell signal drops to zero past H D Kote, so wrap up any calls and download your maps before arriving!
