Weekend getaway from Chandigarh · #4 of 10
Morni Hills
Haryana's only hill station, 45 km from Chandigarh in the Shivaliks: pine-trail treks, the twin Tikkar lakes with a 10th-century temple site, and an old fort museum. An easy one-day escape; summers get hot.

Escape Chandigarh for Haryana's lone hill station, perched 1,220 m up in the Shivaliks just 45 km out. It's the perfect one-day circuit: explore a hilltop fort museum, wander fragrant pine trails, and go pedal-boating on twin lakes with a 10th-century temple on the shore.
Getting there
The go-to pick among the three Chandigarh routes; expect fun, twisty hairpins for the final 15 km.

Drive up past Chandimandir
Peel off the Shimla highway right past Chandimandir toll and watch scrub hills give way to fresh pine. It is roughly 45 km of smooth tarmac with sweeping turns.
Tip · Hit the road early - those twisty hairpins get clogged with weekend bikers once 10 AM rolls around.

📍 Tikkar Taal, Morni
Tip · Head to the big lake for the boat jetty, but slip over to the smaller lake if you want peaceful, crowd-free photos.
- 75:00 PMDrive
Drive back to Chandigarh
Cruise back down the winding ridge to the Shimla highway. You will be back in the tricity in roughly 90 minutes, or even faster if you are stopping in Panchkula.
Tip · Clear the winding hairpin curves before nightfall, as the hill road has no streetlights.
Where to eat
Crispy, piping-hot stuffed paranthas dolloped with fresh white butter at the village square - pure hill-morning bliss.
The open-air terrace here is your best bet for a hearty, fuss-free North Indian spread with great views.
When to go
The golden window: crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and ideal hiking temperatures.
Warmer than higher Himachal spots, so get an early jump on your day and wrap up outdoor activities by mid-afternoon.
The hills turn lush emerald and streams come alive, though walking trails can get slick after heavy rain.
Good to know
- Cell service gets spotty once you cruise past Morni village, so be sure to download offline maps beforehand.
- If you make good time heading down, tag on an evening stop at Panchkula's Sector 5 for dinner or dessert.
