Getting there
A super smooth 6-lane toll road stretching 210 km from Greater Noida. Just watch out for thick, blinding winter fog if you are driving early in December or January.
It is the slower, old-school route, but perfect if you want to break up the journey with a quick detour to the temples of Mathura and Vrindavan.

When to go
Perfect travel weather with cool mornings and great lighting for your photos. Keep in mind that December and January mornings get seriously foggy on the expressway.
It gets incredibly hot, often crossing 40C. Stick to early sunrise sightseeing, hide out indoors during the afternoon heat, and drink tons of water.
The rains wash the dust away, making the gardens lush and green with fewer tourists around. Plus, the Yamuna river actually looks full and beautiful behind the Taj.
Good to know
- Double check your calendar: the Taj Mahal is closed every single Friday. Schedule that bucket-list sunrise visit for Saturday or Sunday morning instead.
- Do not forget to slip a government photo ID into your pocket; security will ask to see it at almost every monument entrance.
- Want to see the Taj glow under a full moon? Night viewings happen just five nights a month, but you need to book ASI tickets online the second they drop.
- Expect to pay about Rs 1200 for a certified, official half-day guide for the Taj and Fort. Anything significantly cheaper is probably a shopping tour in disguise.
