Weekend getaway from Mysuru · #6 of 10
Shivanasamudra & Talakadu
Day loop east of Mysuru: the Kaveri's twin Shivanasamudra falls in full spate after the monsoon, Talakadu's sand-buried temples and Somanathapura's UNESCO Hoysala gem. Falls shrink to a trickle by late spring.

The ultimate one-day Kaveri loop: jaw-dropping Hoysala stone carvings at Somanathapura, sand-dune-buried shrines at Talakadu, and the roaring twin waterfalls of Shivanasamudra plunging off the Deccan plateau.
Getting there
Super chill state highways with breezy 30-45 minute hops between stops. The full loop clocks in at roughly 160 km.

Drive back to Mysuru
An easy, pleasant 90-minute evening cruise back home via Malavalli and Bannur as the sun sets.
Where to eat
The Bannur route is legendary for its slow-cooked, melt-in-your-mouth local mutton preparations.
No-nonsense, lightning-fast Karnataka thalis loaded with flavor across Malavalli and T. Narasipura.
When to go
The waterfalls are at their roaring, epic best, though viewpoints can get misty and slick underfoot.
Crisp blue skies, solid river flow, and perfect pleasant weather for strolling between temples.
Water flow slows to a trickle - focus on the ancient temple trails and give the falls a skip.
Good to know
- Do not even think about swimming near the falls - it is strictly forbidden and genuinely treacherous.
- Both Talakadu and Somanathapura shutter for an afternoon break, so wrap up your temple visits before 1 PM!
