Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve
Maharashtra's oldest and largest tiger reserve, and the state's best bet for a close tiger sighting. Four safari zones, seasonal lakes and a genuine density of big cats make it worth the full weekend.

Ready to meet India's biggest cats? Just 150 km from Nagpur, Chandrapur's legendary reserve boasts the country's highest tiger density. Grab a weekend of pure thrill with two epic safaris split between Moharli and Kolara.

Where to eat
A regional legend - Vidarbha's signature spicy, slow-cooked non-veg. Grab it piping hot at roadside dhabas on your drive.
Simple, nourishing comfort food. Expect piping-hot thalis at your lodge that hit the spot after a dusty day in the jeep.
The perfect post-safari ritual. Sip hot cutting chai and munch on fresh bhajiyas while talking about your tiger sightings.
When to go
Perfect weather with crisp, cool mornings. It is peak season for a reason, so book your permits and stays way in advance.
It gets seriously hot, but the dry weather forces tigers down to the waterholes. If you can handle the heat, sightings are legendary.
Monsoon means breeding season, and the core zones take a breather. Save your safaris for the dry months.
Good to know
- Snag your permits at mytadoba.mahaforest.gov.in the second they go live (up to 120 days out). Weekend spots at Moharli and Kolara vanish fast!
- Missed the boat? Keep an eye out for the last-minute tatkal quota released just a few days before your trip.
- Double-check your pack! The rangers will check your physical ID at the gate, and it must match the one on your permit.
- Pro tip - do one safari in Moharli and the other in Kolara. Mixing zones dramatically increases your chances of a tiger sighting!
