Weekend getaway from Nashik · #1 of 10
Bhandardara
Sahyadri lake district around Arthur Lake and the century-old Wilson Dam, with Randha and Umbrella Falls thundering July to September. Lakeside camps, Ratangad treks and some of the darkest star skies near Nashik.

Tucked into the Sahyadris just 72 km from Nashik, Bhandardara is your go-to riverside escape along the Pravara. Unwind by Arthur Lake and Wilson Dam, chase roaring waterfalls at Randha and Umbrella falls, and take a quick drive to explore ancient Amruteshwar temple and rugged Ratangad fort.
Getting there
Smooth cruising up to Ghoti, but expect a narrow, winding climb for the final stretch - take it easy if driving after sunset.

Watch the Pravara river plunge 45 m into a dramatic rocky canyon just down the road. It roars at full blast from July to September, but slows to a trickle by late winter.

Umbrella Falls viewpoint
Right after monsoon, dam water surges down the rocks in a gorgeous, fan-shaped umbrella cascade. Skip this stop during dry months since it won't be running.

Drive back to Nashik
Head back via Bari and Ghoti in about 2 hours - budget extra time to grab a steaming cuppa at the roadside ghat stalls on the way down.
Where to eat
Comfort food at its best - spiced gram-flour curry paired with fresh, hot millet flatbread at local village homes and campsites.
Nothing beats gathering around a crackling bonfire for smoky barbecue skewers and endless cups of sweet chai under the stars.
The ultimate road-trip ritual: crispy, golden onion pakoras fried fresh at misty hillside stalls near Ghoti.
When to go
The hills turn impossibly lush and waterfalls roar at maximum power, but trails get slick and lakeside roads occasionally flood.
Prime camping season! Crisp, cool breezes and clear skies make for phenomenal stargazing, though the waterfalls are much quieter.
Warm daytime heat means waterfalls dry up, but you can still catch gorgeous early-morning treks before the sun peaks.
Good to know
- Cell service drops off around the water, so save your offline Google maps before leaving Ghoti.
- Bring plenty of hard cash - ATMs are nonexistent by the lake and campsites rarely have working card machines.
- Got an extra day? Tackle Maharashtra's highest peak with a detour to Kalsubai starting right from Bari village.
