Weekend getaway from Pune · #2 of 10
Mahabaleshwar & Panchgani
Twin hill stations above the Krishna valley: sunrise at Wilson Point, Arthur's Seat cliffs, boating on Venna Lake, Pratapgad fort and strawberries with cream most of the year.

Just three hours south of Pune via Wai's ancient temple ghats, Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani remain the ultimate twin hill escape. The timeless weekend playbook here is simple and perfect: sweeping valley views from cliff-edge viewpoints, drifting on Venna Lake, scaling a historic Maratha fort, and eating your weight in fresh strawberries and cream.
Getting there
Ditch the highway at Surur to climb the scenic ghats through Wai. Keep cash or UPI ready: there is a municipal entry fee of Rs 50 per person and Rs 50 per car (valid for seven days), plus a Rs 50 vehicle tax if you pass through Panchgani.
Super easy on the wallet and very frequent. Once you arrive, you can easily skip bringing a car; just hop on the local government darshan buses to check out 11 major viewpoints in a handy four-hour loop.
