Getting there
Hit the road mid-morning. That pesky QEW traffic through Burlington crawls during weekday rush hours, but it is usually smooth sailing on weekends.
Catch the hourly GO train from Union to West Harbour GO. Just remember, you will want a car or rideshare to jump between the waterfalls without wasting your day.

Albion Falls
This stunning, wide 22-meter terraced cascade in Red Hill Valley is one of the city's most photographed spots. It is super easy to reach right off the escarpment brow.

Tews Falls
Plunging 41 meters through the Spencer Gorge/Websters Falls Conservation Area, this giant is almost as tall as Niagara! Just note that the flow thins to a trickle by midsummer.

A short walk from Tews, this stunning 30-meter curtain is Hamilton's widest and prettiest waterfall. It features a cobblestone arch bridge right at the brink and a popular picnic area below.

Take a short hike along the Bruce Trail from the Websters Falls parking lot to reach Dundas Peak. The lookout offers spectacular, sweeping views over the Dundas Valley and the town.

Straddling the Hamilton-Burlington line, this is one of the world's largest botanical gardens. Don't miss the themed gardens, marshland trails, and the tropical plant glasshouse with its own indoor waterfalls.

Wander the old town's stone-fronted main street to find a cozy collection of local cafes, tasty bakeries, and inviting patios, all just steps from one another.
This beloved, century-old local grocer is stocked with fresh produce and premium Italian pantry goods. It is the ultimate spot to load up on picnic goodies before you head to the falls.
When the weather is warm, pack a lunch and head to the picnic areas near Websters and Tews Falls in Spencer Gorge for a relaxed, scenic bite to eat.
When to go
Spring is prime waterfall season! The melting snow fuels a roaring, dramatic flow, whereas spots like Tews Falls can dwindle to a trickle by midsummer.
You will get perfect weather for hiking Dundas Peak and exploring the botanical gardens, though the waterfalls might look a bit thirsty if it has been dry.
Autumn brings stunning views as the escarpment canopy erupts in brilliant shades of red and gold. The walks along the Bruce Trail near Dundas Peak are breathtaking.
Winter turns the cascades into gorgeous frozen ice sculptures. Just be careful, as the trails get very icy - grab some microspikes and keep your distance from the unfenced edges.
Good to know
- With over 100 waterfalls around the city, you will find almost all of them clustered along or near the Bruce Trail as it winds across the Niagara Escarpment.
- Pack plenty of water and snacks before you go, as you won't find any shops or services at the main waterfall trailheads.
- Keep a close eye on the kids and stick to the paths - the escarpment edges near the drops are mostly unfenced.
- While hourly GO trains run between Union and West Harbour GO, you will definitely want a car or a rideshare to connect the waterfalls, Dundas, and the gardens in one day.
