Do Guyanese passport holders need a visa for Georgia?

It depends which Guyanese passport you hold, which is not true of most nationalities. An ordinary passport needs a Georgian e-visa, applied for online at 20 US dollars plus a small service fee. A diplomatic or special passport needs no Georgian visa at all. Guyana is one of only nine nationalities out of the 192 the portal lists where that exemption applies, and one of only four among the countries that use the e-visa.

Entry requirements

A Guyanese passport valid at least three months beyond the validity period of the visa you are requesting, with at least two free pages, issued within the previous ten years and free of unofficial remarks.

The passport in your hand decides whether there is an application at all

Georgia’s visa portal answers by nationality and by travel document together. Asked about Guyana it returns three things: a visa is required, the ordinary e-visa is available, and no visa is needed if the traveller holds a diplomatic or special passport. That last flag is set for only nine of the 192 nationalities the portal lists, and for only four of the thirty-two that use the e-visa: Egypt, Guyana, Indonesia and Laos.

On an ordinary passport the route is the standard online one. The fee is 20 US dollars plus a two per cent service charge, the form is completed in English, and a decision takes not less than five working days, extending to ten where the circumstances need further examination.

The application is unforgiving about timing rather than about documents. The verification email the portal sends is valid for one hour and the fee must be paid within five hours of the notification, and missing either cancels the application outright. There is no correction mechanism, so an error noticed after submission means a fresh application at a fresh fee.

Your neighbours get two entries and you get one, which matters if the trip is not a straight there-and-back. The portal issues the e-visa as a single entry to Guyana, and to eighteen other nationalities. Thirteen get two: Bolivia, Cuba, Guatemala, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau, Saint Lucia, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and Tuvalu. Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago sitting in the two-entry group and Guyana in the one-entry group is the kind of difference a regional traveller would never think to check, and it decides whether a side trip out of Georgia and back is possible on the same visa.
The exemption for diplomatic and special passports is worth reading precisely, because it is about the document rather than the person. The portal sets the flag against the travel document type, so it is the passport you present that is exempt, not you. A Guyanese official travelling privately on an ordinary passport is in the ordinary queue paying the ordinary fee, and the exemption gives them nothing on that trip.
Check what is already in your passport before starting any application. Georgia admits holders of a valid visa or residence permit from a long list of countries, including the EU and EFTA states, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and others, without any Georgian visa at all. For a Guyanese traveller who already holds a live US visa, that route costs nothing against the e-visa’s twenty dollars, and it is worth confirming before paying for anything.
The insurance requirement is enforced at the border rather than collected by the portal. You confirm in the application that you hold travel insurance, but nobody takes the policy from you, and the check that decides your entry happens at the Georgian border crossing point where you must be able to present cover for the whole period of your stay. Buy it before you fly and carry proof you can produce on the spot.
