How to apply for a Swiss Schengen visa from Togo

Work out which country you are actually applying to before anything else. The application goes to the Schengen state where you will spend the most nights, and only to Switzerland if Switzerland is that country. If the trip is mainly to France, you apply to France, and France does have an embassy in Lomé that takes Schengen applications. Getting this wrong is what turns a local errand into a trip abroad.

Attend the appointment in person. Biometric data is captured at the centre, so the applicant has to be there; this is not something an agent can do on your behalf. Budget for the journey to Accra, at least one night, and possibly a second trip to collect the passport.

Pay 90 euros for an adult application, or 45 euros for a child aged 6 to 11, plus the VFS service fee. The visa fee has been at that level since 11 June 2024 and is not refunded if the application is refused.

On a route where slots are scarce and the applicant has to cross a border to use one, counting backwards from your departure date using the 15 days alone will leave you short. Start months out, not weeks.
• A refusal costs the fee and the trip, so lodge a complete file the first time. The most common weaknesses on West African applications are thin evidence of funds and of ties to home rather than anything exotic. Employment letters, payslips, property documents and family circumstances are what address that, and assembling them before the appointment is far cheaper than doing it again after a refusal.
