This is an activation product, not a data bundle. The distinction matters because an innocent-looking background sync, answered call or outgoing text can consume the main balance at roaming rates. Use a travel eSIM for data and keep Airtel available only for incoming messages.

What the Airtel ₹118 activation includes

The current Airtel terms describe the prepaid option as an international roaming service activation fee. It is valid for 28 days and allows unlimited incoming SMS. An active domestic prepaid plan with service validity is also mandatory. If that base validity expires, the roaming service can stop working even when days remain on the activation product.

How to buy the activation before you fly

Start in the Airtel Thanks app because it can show products eligible for your particular prepaid number and destination. Menu labels can move between app versions, but the usual path is International Roaming, followed by destination and pack selection.

2. Confirm the number has an active domestic validity plan covering the trip.
3. Open the International Roaming section.
4. Select the destination and look for the service activation option or an appropriate IR pack.

What the ₹118 activation does not include

It does not provide a mobile-data allowance. It does not bundle incoming or outgoing voice minutes. It does not include outgoing SMS. It also does not extend the ordinary validity of an Airtel prepaid line.

Airtel postpaid also describes a Roam-Without-Fear mechanism in covered countries. When qualifying daily usage reaches Airtel's threshold, an operator-selected one-day construct can apply. Troubleshooting when an Airtel OTP does not arrive

First, separate network registration from sender delivery. If the Airtel line shows no partner network, confirm IR status in Airtel Thanks, restart the device, and leave network selection on automatic. If Airtel publishes partner choices for the destination, try one of those manually.

If ordinary SMS arrives but one bank's OTP does not, the roaming connection is probably not the only issue.
