What TripIt does well
- Forward-from-anywhere email parsing works with any inbox - Outlook, Yahoo, corporate mail - and eighteen years of edge cases mean it rarely misreads a booking.
- TripIt Pro’s real-time flight alerts, fare-refund monitoring and seat tracking are the best in the business.
- Deep corporate-travel integration (SAP Concur), plus loyalty-program and points tracking.
Where the organizer model stops
- TripIt starts working only after everything is booked. It has no answer to "where should we go and what should we do each day?" - the itinerary is a mirror of your inbox, not a plan.
- Trips are shareable but not plannable together: there is no group suggestion, voting or joint editing of a draft plan.
- It can show what a trip cost, but cannot split expenses between travellers or settle up.
- The features travellers actually rely on mid-trip - live flight alerts, check-in reminders - sit behind the $49/yr Pro wall.
The real difference
TripIt organizes the trip you already booked; Tripmojo plans the trip and then organizes it. If your trips are solo work travel and your company pays for Pro, TripIt remains excellent. If you are deciding where to go, planning days with other people, and splitting the bill at the end, TripIt has no opinion - and that whole layer, plus the organizing, is what Tripmojo does free.
Where Tripmojo falls short
- Tripmojo is new. TripIt has been parsing confirmation emails since 2006; we ship parser fixes weekly, but you will still occasionally meet a booking email we misread and have to correct by hand.
- Automatic booking detection only works with Gmail. On Outlook or any other inbox you forward or upload bookings yourself - there is no auto-scan for non-Google email yet.
- There is no loyalty-program tooling: Tripmojo does not track points balances, monitor fares for refund claims, or watch seat maps the way TripIt Pro does.

Yes - connect Gmail and bookings are detected automatically, or forward and upload confirmations from any other inbox. TripIt’s forwarding works from any email provider automatically; Tripmojo’s auto-scan is Gmail-only today.
