The two clocks, and the document that disqualifies you

Understand that the visa runs on a different clock from your trip. Indonesia states plainly that the validity period of the Visitor Visa is not the period of stay: the visa is valid for 90 days, and if you arrive after that 90-day window has closed you must obtain a new one. So the document can expire before you have used a single day of the stay it grants.

Check which passport you will actually be holding. Indonesia excludes a long list of documents from this visa, including emergency and temporary passports, alien passports, certificates of identity and travel documents issued in place of a passport. That matters most to someone whose passport was lost or stolen shortly before departure, because the replacement issued in a hurry is precisely the kind of document the visa does not accept.
