Do Argentine passport holders need a visa for India?

Yes, an e-Visa, and you will not pay for it. India prices the e-Visa by nationality and publishes the schedule country by country. Argentina is in the band that pays nothing: zero for the 30-day, one-year and five-year e-Tourist visas, and zero for the business, medical and medical attendant categories. Twenty-two of the 175 nationalities on the tourist schedule are priced that way.

An Argentine passport with at least six months validity at the time you apply, which is how the portal words the general rule. It states the six months separately as running from the date of arrival for a child travelling on their own e-Visa.

Priced by nationality, and Argentina’s price is nothing

India states plainly that the e-Visa fee is country and territory specific, and publishes two schedules to prove it: one for the e-Tourist visa and one whose title covers the business, medical, medical attendant and conference categories, though its table carries only three columns. Argentina reads 00 in every column of both. The tourist schedule is dated 9 July 2026 and the other 15 April 2026, so these are current documents rather than legacy ones.

For most nationalities the tourist schedule reads 10 for a 30-day visa applied for between April and June, 25 for the same visa from July to March, 40 for one year and 200 for five years, in US dollars. Argentina pays none of it. The 3% bank transaction charge the portal warns about is a percentage of the fee, so it too comes to nothing.

What the exemption does not change is the process. You still apply online, still upload the documents, and still wait for the authorisation to be granted before travelling. The portal is explicit that the fee is a processing fee rather than a payment for the visa, which is why it is non-refundable whether an application is granted or rejected. For Argentina that clause is academic, but the scrutiny behind it is not.

The five-year visa is where this is worth the most, and it inverts the usual calculation. Nationalities on the standard band pay 200 dollars for the five-year e-Tourist visa and 40 for the one-year, so the sensible move is to buy the shortest visa that covers the trip. An Argentine passport holder pays the same nothing for all four durations, which means there is no financial reason to choose the shortest. If there is any chance of returning to India within five years, the longer validity costs exactly what the one-month visa costs.
Free is a reason to be more careful about intermediaries, not less. India’s own portal warns applicants about agents and intermediaries, and the usual harm is a markup on a real fee. Here there is no fee at all, so every rupee or peso an agent charges an Argentine applicant is entirely their own margin on a government service that costs nothing. The portal also answers the related question directly: there is nothing further to pay at the airport beyond what was paid online, which for Argentina is zero.
The seasonal pricing that catches everyone else does not reach you, and that is worth knowing when you compare notes. India’s tourist schedule splits the year, listing one price for a 30-day visa in April to June and a higher one from July to March. Travellers on the standard band swap advice about timing an application around that boundary. None of it applies to an Argentine passport, so guidance that treats the date of application as a cost decision is describing someone else’s situation.
A fee band is a policy choice and it has a date on it. Both schedules were revised within the last five months, one in April 2026 and one in July 2026. That currency is reassuring in that the documents are maintained, and a caution in that the band Argentina sits in is not a permanent feature of the passport. Read the schedule on the portal before you apply rather than a figure quoted second hand, because a number copied from a guide written last year may already be describing a different band.
