Do Jamaican passport holders need a visa for India?

Yes, an e-Visa, and India charges Jamaican nationals nothing for it. Jamaica asks no visa of Indians in return, listing India as a Commonwealth entry with no visa required. That label is worth reading closely, because seven Commonwealth-annotated entries on the same table still need one.

Free one way, unconditional the other

Jamaica is entry 76 on India’s e-Visa eligibility list, which runs to 174 numbered slots covering 173 countries because Kenya is listed twice. The application is online and travel waits on the grant of the Electronic Travel Authorisation.

India charges nothing for it. On the country-wise e-Tourist visa fee schedule dated 9 July 2026, Jamaica is row 75 and all four columns read 00. On the business, medical and medical attendant schedule dated 15 April 2026 it is row 76 and all three read 00. Twenty-two of the 175 rows are zero throughout and the same 22 names appear on both documents.

The Jamaican side is simpler than most. Its Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency publishes an entry visa requirements table of 208 country rows, and the Indian row reads "INDIA (Commonwealth)" against "NO visa required", with no period attached. Other rows on that table carry conditions instead. Some give 30 days or less to tourists who already hold a United States, Canadian, United Kingdom or Schengen visa; others turn on proof of vaccination, against measles, rubella and polio in some rows and yellow fever in others. India is in none of those groups; the Indian entry has no condition on it.

Good to know

The Commonwealth label on that table does not decide the answer, and seven entries prove it. Fifty-eight rows mention the Commonwealth beside the country name, fifty-five spelled with a capital C, two, Mozambique and Sierra Leone, in lower case, and one, Zimbabwe, annotated as withdrawn from it. Fifty of those rows read no visa required, which is the group India is in. Seven require a visa anyway: Cameroon, the Cayman Islands, the Maldives, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. One more points the reader elsewhere, reading "see Eswatini". So an Indian traveller is visa-free for Jamaica because the Indian row says so, not because of the word beside the country name.
The table states no length of stay for India, which is not the same as an unlimited one. Plenty of rows do carry a period, commonly 30 days or 90, and the United States row reads six months. The Indian row carries none, so the permitted stay is set at the border rather than on the page, and an itinerary and an onward ticket are what an immigration officer will work from. Do not read the absence of a number as a guarantee of a long stay, and do not import a figure from a summary that is not on this table. The column is written forty different ways across the table, so any tidy summary of it, including one on another travel site, is worth distrusting.
India’s two ceilings are published in different places and only one of them is on the visa portal. The portal gives the annual figure, a maximum of 180 days in India in one calendar year on the one-year and five-year e-Tourist visas. The per-visit figure comes from the immigration bureau and is 90 days for nationals of every country eligible for the e-Visa except the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, whose nationals get 180. Jamaica is not among those four. The bureau also counts an e-Tourist visa and a paper tourist visa together against the annual 180.
A free visa is still an application with a deadline, and it cannot be altered afterwards. The Indian portal requires the form to be completed online and the authorisation to be granted before travel, with no counter alternative for Jamaican nationals, since India reserves visa on arrival for Japan, South Korea and the UAE. Once you are in India the e-Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible, so a longer stay means leaving and applying again. If your passport is replaced after the authorisation is granted, carry the old one alongside the new.
