Do Fijian passport holders need a visa for India?

Yes, an e-Visa, and India charges Fijian nationals nothing for it. Fiji asks no visa of Indians in return and issues a visitor’s permit of up to four months on arrival. The catch is what you may do with it: the provision covering work, study or business activity runs 14 days and cannot be extended.

Free one way, and permit-shaped the other

Fiji is entry 52 on India’s e-Visa eligibility list, which runs to 174 numbered slots covering 173 countries because Kenya is listed twice. The application is online and travel waits on the grant of the Electronic Travel Authorisation.

India charges nothing. On the country-wise e-Tourist visa fee schedule dated 9 July 2026, Fiji is row 51 and all four columns read 00. On the business, medical and medical attendant schedule dated 15 April 2026 it is row 52 and all three read 00. Twenty-two of the 175 rows are zero throughout and the same 22 names appear on both documents.

Fiji requires no visa of Indian nationals, and says so with a qualification worth reading. Its immigration ministry lists the countries whose citizens are not required to obtain a Fiji visa, India among them, and adds that these travellers "will still need the relevant permits depending on the nature of their travel". The visitor’s permit issued on arrival covers holidays, sport and recreation, visiting Fijian relatives and friends, conferences and meetings, and transit, and the ministry says "The period issued may vary from several days up to a maximum of four months." It cannot be used to look for employment or to work. So the visa is waived and a generous holiday is available; the permission to do anything beyond visiting is the part that is rationed.

Good to know

Fourteen days is the limit on working, not on staying, and the two are easy to run together. The visitor’s permit itself can run up to four months. Separately, Fiji’s immigration ministry cites section 9(3) of the Immigration Act 2003, which allows a non-citizen from any visa-exempted country to work, study or conduct business-related activities, with the purpose declared at the border on arrival, and states that the provision "is limit to 14 days only, cannot extend or permitted to apply for extension", with work permits required beyond 14 days. So an Indian traveller may holiday for months and may work, study or do business for a fortnight of it. Nothing lets you extend the second figure by extending the first.
Four nationalities get 21 days on arrival instead, and India is not one of them. The same ministry page sets out a Business Visitors Permit issued on arrival for 21 days, without prior approval, for nationals of Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States. It allows business, study, research, consultancy or work-related activities for those 21 days, and warns that working beyond them without a permit may result in removal and denied future entry to Fiji. Visa exemption and business allowance are two different things in Fiji, and the second is narrower and unevenly distributed.
Count the exemption list carefully, because it repeats itself and it is not all countries. The page carries 116 flag lines. Macao appears twice under that same name. Dominica appears twice under two names, once as Dominica and once as Commonwealth Dominica. And one line is not a foreign country at all: Fiji itself, marked for domestic travel. So the number of distinct foreign nationalities on the list is smaller than the number of lines, and any round figure quoted from it elsewhere is worth distrusting. The page also states no duration of stay, which is published separately on the visitor’s permit page.
India’s two ceilings are published in different places and only one is on the visa portal. The portal gives the annual figure, 180 days in a calendar year on the one-year and five-year e-Tourist visas. The per-visit figure comes from the immigration bureau and is 90 days for nationals of every country eligible for the e-Visa except the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, who get 180. Fiji is not among those four. The bureau also counts an e-Tourist visa and a paper tourist visa together against the annual 180, and the e-Visa itself is non-extendable and non-convertible once you are in the country.
