Do Seychellois passport holders need a visa for India?

Yes, an e-Visa, and India charges Seychellois nationals nothing for it. Seychelles asks no visa of anyone in return, so the visa is free in both directions. Going the other way is not free of charge though: Seychelles bills a travel authorisation fee and an environmental tax on every night you stay.

Free both ways, conditional both ways

Seychelles is entry 142 on India’s e-Visa eligibility list, which runs to 174 numbered slots covering 173 countries because Kenya is listed twice. The application is online and travel waits on the grant of the Electronic Travel Authorisation.

The price is nothing. On the country-wise e-Tourist visa fee schedule dated 9 July 2026, Seychelles is row 141 and all four columns read 00. On the business, medical and medical attendant schedule dated 15 April 2026 it is row 142 and all three columns read 00. Twenty-two of the 175 rows are zero throughout, and the same 22 names carry over to the second document.

Going the other way there is no visa at all. Seychelles immigration says a visa is not required to enter for other passport holders, and issues a visitor’s permit on arrival instead, free for the first three months. What Seychelles does require in advance is an Electronic Travel Authorisation, obtained before departing your country of origin, and that one is not free. Its fee is €10 for standard processing within 24 hours, €30 for premium processing within six hours and €70 for expedited processing within an hour, and it is non-refundable even if the application is refused.

The Seychellois permit is generous on paper and expensive to extend. The visitor’s permit is granted initially for up to three months at no charge, and can be extended in successive periods of up to three months each to a maximum total of twelve months. Each extension beyond the first three months costs SCR 5,000 for that period or any part of it, paid by card online or in person at Independence House in Victoria. So a year in Seychelles is possible on a permit that started free, and it carries three extension fees by the end of it.
Seychelles admits you without a visa and still sets conditions at the border. The permit is issued to travellers coming for holiday, business, or visiting friends and family, and the published criteria are that you are not a prohibited immigrant, do not already hold a permit entitling you to reside there, hold a valid return or onward ticket for the duration of the visit, have confirmed accommodation, and can show sufficient funds, which the immigration office puts at a minimum of US$150 or equivalent per day. Read literally that is US$2,100 across a fortnight. The page states it as a minimum for the duration and does not say what form the funds must take or when they are checked, so treat it as the standard you should be able to meet rather than a sum to carry. No visa is not the same as no requirements.
India’s two ceilings work differently from the Seychellois one, and only one of them is on the visa portal. The portal gives the annual figure: maximum stay during one calendar year should not exceed 180 days on the one-year and five-year e-Tourist visas. The per-visit figure is published by the immigration bureau instead, and it is 90 days, applying to nationals of every country eligible for the e-Visa except the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, who may stay 180. Seychelles is not among those four. The bureau also counts an e-Tourist visa and a paper tourist visa together against the annual 180, so a mission-issued visa earlier in the year is already spending it.
The visa is free both ways, the trip is not, and the Seychellois side is where the money is. India waives the fee on a visa it still requires, so a Seychellois traveller genuinely pays nothing. An Indian traveller pays no visa fee either, because there is no visa, but does pay for the travel authorisation and then an environmental tax of €6.00 per visitor per night. The tax used to be collected by hotels and since 25 April 2023 is charged on the travel authorisation platform instead, which means it is paid up front against the nights you declare rather than settled at checkout. On a fortnight that is €10 for the authorisation and €84 in tax before anyone has booked a room.
