Do Congolese passport holders need a visa for Turkey?

Yes. Citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo need a visa to enter Turkey, and it has to be a sticker visa issued by a Turkish embassy or consulate before you travel. DR Congo is not on the list of nationalities eligible for Turkey’s e-Visa, so the online route does not apply to an ordinary Congolese passport. The exception is diplomatic passport holders, who are exempt for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. For everyone else the application starts with the online pre-application system and finishes with an appointment at the Turkish Embassy in Kinshasa.

Entry requirements
- A DR Congo passport valid for at least 60 days beyond the duration of stay written on your visa. The Turkish MFA also advises carrying a passport valid for at least six months from arrival, so meet the longer of the two.
- A Turkish sticker visa in that passport, issued before departure for the purpose you are actually travelling for. A tourist or business visa does not cover work or study.
- The supporting documents your pre-application lists for your visa type, such as a return ticket, accommodation details and proof of funds, and an invitation letter if someone in Turkey is hosting you.
- Any invitation letter must state the inviting person’s Turkish identity number, full identity and permanent address, a contact number, the list of invitees, and the length and purpose of the stay.
How to apply for a Turkish visa from DR Congo
Start at the Turkish Pre-Application System for sticker visas (visa.gov.tr, which runs on konsolosluk.gov.tr). You choose DR Congo and the Kinshasa mission, select the visa type, fill the form online and book the appointment. The pre-application is not the visa; it is the ticket to the counter.
Attend the appointment at the Turkish Embassy in Kinshasa, at 18 Avenue Pumbu in Gombe, with your passport, the printed pre-application, and the supporting documents for your visa type. The fee is paid at this stage and is not refunded if the application is refused.
Allow time. The Turkish MFA recommends applying at least one month before the planned trip, and the embassy works by appointment only on weekdays, so a slot may not be available the week you want it.
The visa shows a validity window and a duration of stay. Turkish missions can grant at most 90 days of stay, and no combination of visas or exemptions may exceed 90 days within any 180 days. Anything longer means a short-term residence permit from the Provincial Directorate of Migration Administration once in Turkey.
Good to know
- The e-Visa sites are the trap on this route. Turkey’s e-Visa portal lists the nationalities it serves, and neither the Democratic Republic of the Congo nor the Republic of the Congo is on it. Any site offering to sell a Congolese passport holder a Turkish e-Visa is not going to deliver one, because the official system will not issue it. The only valid document is the sticker visa from the embassy.
- Check the passport type before assuming the answer. The Turkish MFA line for DR Congo treats diplomatic passports differently from service passports: diplomatic holders are exempt for 90 days in 180, while service and ordinary holders both need a visa. That is not the same split as for the Republic of the Congo, so an official travelling on a Kinshasa service passport should not rely on a colleague’s experience from Brazzaville.
- Kinshasa is the mission that handles this, and it is listed on the consular appointment system as Kongo Demokratik C., separate from Kongo Cumhuriyeti. Picking the wrong Congo in the dropdown sends your pre-application to the wrong embassy, which is an easy mistake on a menu written in Turkish.
- The 60-day passport rule is counted from the end of your permitted stay, not from the day you land. A visa with a 30-day duration of stay needs a passport good for at least 90 days after entry, and the MFA separately advises six months from arrival as a general standard, so a passport renewal is worth doing before, not after, the pre-application.
- Fees and turnaround are not published on a page we could read for DR Congo applicants, and the Kinshasa embassy site carries no visa notice of its own as of August 2026. Treat any figure quoted by an agency as unverified until the embassy confirms it at the appointment, and plan on the MFA’s one-month lead time rather than anything shorter.
Frequently asked questions
Do Congolese citizens need a visa for Turkey?
Yes. Ordinary and service passport holders from the Democratic Republic of the Congo need a visa issued by a Turkish embassy or consulate before travelling. Only diplomatic passport holders are exempt.
Can DR Congo passport holders get a Turkey e-Visa?
No. DR Congo is not on the list of nationalities eligible for Turkey’s e-Visa, so the online portal cannot issue one. You need a sticker visa from the Turkish Embassy in Kinshasa.
Where do I apply for a Turkish visa in Kinshasa?
Make a pre-application online through Turkey’s consular portal (visa.gov.tr), choosing DR Congo and the Kinshasa mission, then attend the appointment at the Turkish Embassy at 18 Avenue Pumbu, Gombe.
How long before my trip should I apply for a Turkey visa?
The Turkish MFA recommends applying at least one month before the planned travel date. The embassy works by appointment, so the wait for a slot is part of that month.
How long can a Congolese citizen stay in Turkey on a visa?
Up to the duration of stay printed on the visa, which can be at most 90 days, and never more than 90 days in any 180-day period. Longer stays need a short-term residence permit applied for inside Turkey.
How much passport validity do I need for Turkey?
At least 60 days beyond the duration of stay on your visa under the rule in force since 1 January 2015, and the MFA also advises six months from the date of arrival as a general standard.
Is the rule the same for the Republic of the Congo?
Both Congos need a visa on ordinary passports and neither is e-Visa eligible, but the exemptions for official passports differ. This page covers the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kinshasa, only.
Do I need a transit visa to change planes in Istanbul with a DR Congo passport?
Turkey’s electronic airport transit visa applies only to ten listed nationalities flying on to Mexico, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela, and DR Congo is not one of them. That rule is the only transit visa Turkey issues online; if you need to clear passport control for any reason, such as collecting bags on separate tickets or a domestic connection, a Congolese passport needs the ordinary sticker visa, so confirm your airside status with the airline before you book a split itinerary.
Can my child apply for a Turkey visa from Kinshasa without both parents?
Only with paperwork. The Turkish MFA requires any applicant under 18 to submit official written approval from both parents, with a custody decision in place of the missing consent if the parents are divorced or a death certificate if one parent has died.
I hold a second passport as well as my Congolese one. Can I use both to stay longer in Turkey?
No. The Turkish MFA states that a foreigner holding two passports cannot stay 90 days on each within the same 180-day period; the 90-in-180 limit follows the person, whichever passport is shown at the border.
