Do Egyptian passport holders need a visa for Turkey?

Yes for an ordinary passport, and the answer then splits by age. Egyptians under 15 or above 45 can get the e-Visa with no further condition. Between 15 and 45 you need a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit, and you must fly with one of five named airlines. That airline condition appears nowhere else in the whole table.

Your age decides the process, and your ticket can invalidate it

The Turkish foreign ministry requires a visa of Egyptian ordinary passport holders, while official passport holders are exempt for travel of up to 90 days. For ordinary passports the route is the e-Visa, and which version of it you are applying for depends on how old you are.

Egyptian nationals under 15 years of age or above 45 may obtain the e-Visa, in the ministry’s words, without additional condition. Nothing beyond the application itself is asked of them.

Egyptians between 15 and 45 face two conditions rather than none. They may obtain a 30-day single-entry e-Visa provided they hold a valid Schengen or United States, United Kingdom or Ireland visa or residence permit, and provided they travel to Türkiye with Turkish Airlines, AJet, Pegasus, Egypt Air or Air Cairo. Both conditions have to hold, and the second one is decided when you book the flight.

Good to know

The airline condition is unique to this entry, which is why nobody expects it. Across the ministry’s roughly 194 country entries, Egypt is the only one whose visa route names the carriers you must fly. Five are listed: Turkish Airlines, AJet, Pegasus, Egypt Air and Air Cairo. A 15 to 45 year old Egyptian who holds a perfectly valid Schengen residence permit and books a sixth airline has not met the condition as the ministry states it, however ordinary that airline is and however good the fare was. Decide the carrier before you pay for the e-Visa, not after.
Codeshares are the case the wording does not resolve, so treat them as a question rather than an assumption. A ticket sold under one airline’s code and flown by another is common on this route, and the ministry’s sentence names airlines without saying whether it means the marketing carrier on your ticket or the one operating the aircraft. Nothing on the page answers it. If your booking has two airline names on it, ask a Turkish diplomatic mission before you rely on the e-Visa, because this is the one condition you cannot fix at the airport.
Age puts a family into two different regimes on the same trip. A grandparent of 60 and a child of 10 each get the e-Visa with no additional condition at all. A parent of 38 needs a third-country visa and one of five airlines. So a single family booking can contain travellers whose applications ask for completely different things, and the person most likely to be refused is the one in the middle of the age range rather than at either end.
Four entries in the table are stated by age and all four draw the lines differently, so a neighbour’s numbers are the wrong numbers. Egypt uses under 15 and above 45. Algeria and Iraq both use 15 and 50. Libya uses 16 and 45. An Egyptian reading Algerian advice would put the upper boundary five years too late, and a 47 year old would wrongly believe they still need the third-country visa and the named airline when in fact they need neither.
If you are between 15 and 45 and hold none of those visas or permits, the routes on this page are closed to you and the ministry’s Egypt entry does not say what to do instead. It describes only the two e-Visa cases. Elsewhere on the same page, for nationalities with no online route, the ministry directs applicants to Turkish diplomatic or consular missions abroad, and that is the sensible place to start rather than trying the e-Visa site and being refused. A second question the entry leaves open is when the supporting visa has to be valid. It says a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa or residence permit without saying whether valid means on the day you apply or on the day you arrive. The cautious reading, and the one that cannot go wrong, is that it must still be valid when you land.
Passport validity follows the length of the visa, not the length of the trip. Article 7.1b of the Law on Foreigners and International Protection, no. 6458, asks for a travel document valid at least 60 days beyond the duration of stay. The Egyptian e-Visa is issued for 30 days, so the requirement is 90 days of validity at entry, which is the ministry’s own second worked example. That is a lower bar than the 150 days a visa-exempt visitor on a 90-day allowance has to meet.
