Why visit Jaipur

Jaipur packs an unusual amount into a compact area. Amber Fort sits on a ridge above Maota Lake; the City Palace and Jantar Mantar - a UNESCO-listed observatory of oversized stone instruments - are steps apart in the old town; and the honeycomb façade of Hawa Mahal is a five-minute walk from there. Above the city, Nahargarh Fort catches the sunset, while Jaigarh guards the hills behind Amber.

Best time to visit Jaipur

The comfortable window runs from October to March, when days are mild and evenings cool - ideal for forts and long walks through the old city. Summers, from April to June, are hot and can climb past 40°C, so sightseeing is best kept to early mornings. The monsoon, roughly July to September, brings green surroundings and lighter crowds, with occasional heavy showers. If your dates are flexible, aim for the winter months.

How many days do you need in Jaipur

Two days is enough to cover the headline sights - one for Amber Fort and the hilltop forts, another for the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and the bazaars. A third day gives you room to slow down, add Jal Mahal or a stepwell on the outskirts, or take a day trip. If Jaipur is one stop on a Golden Triangle trip, two nights is the usual anchor.

Getting to Jaipur

Jaipur is well connected. The airport at Sanganer has domestic flights from most major Indian cities and a handful of international routes. Jaipur Junction is a major railway station with frequent trains from Delhi, and the Delhi-Jaipur route by road is roughly 280 kilometres, usually around five to six hours. Within the city, autos and app cabs cover most distances, and the old town is walkable in parts.

Where to stay in Jaipur

For first-time visitors, staying near MI Road or the old city keeps you close to the main sights and bazaars. Civil Lines and the Bani Park area are quieter and leafier, with a range of guesthouses and mid-range hotels.
