Best time to visit Jaisalmer

October to March is the season - warm, dry days made for fort lanes and dune sunsets. Pack properly for midwinter nights: the desert drops near freezing in December and January, and camp bedding matters. April to June is fiercely hot and best avoided; the monsoon barely reaches this far west, leaving September a workable shoulder month before the season proper. How many days do you need in Jaisalmer

Three days does it well: one full day for the fort and its temples, one for the havelis, Gadisar and the old town's lanes, and one for the desert - leaving town after lunch, catching the dunes at sunset and sleeping at the camp. A fourth day slows the whole thing down or adds the longer drive to the border-region sights. Jaisalmer also slots naturally as the final stop on a longer Rajasthan circuit.

Getting to Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer has its own airport with seasonal direct flights, primarily through the winter months; Jodhpur, about five hours away by road, is the year-round alternative with better connections. Overnight trains link Jaisalmer to Jodhpur, Jaipur and Delhi and suit the circuit well. In town, everything inside and below the fort is walkable; autos and cabs cover the lake and the start of the desert road, and the camp transfer is part of any dunes package.
