How many days do you need in Rameshwaram

Two days does it properly: the theertham bath and darshan filling the first morning, the corridors and Agni Theertham at leisure, and the Dhanushkodi drive with the land's-end sunset on day two. A third day slows the rhythm or adds Madurai - the Meenakshi temple city sits under two hours from the mainland side, and the two make south India's classic temple pairing.

Getting to Rameshwaram

Madurai is the gateway - the nearest major airport, about three hours away by road. The rail arrival is the special one: trains cross the Pamban bridge onto the island itself, sea on both sides of the carriage. By road, the parallel road bridge delivers the same crossing with stopping rights for photographs. On the island, autos and cabs cover the temple town, and the Dhanushkodi stretch runs by the day-trip vehicles that know the sand-edged final kilometres.

Where to stay in Rameshwaram

Stay near the temple's east side and the Agni Theertham shore for the sunrise-and-darshan rhythm the town runs on - the closer the room, the easier the wet walk back from the theerthams. Newer hotels along the bypass add comfort at a short drive, and pilgrim lodges serve the traditional trade.
